Knowledgeable, conscientious, meticulous, creative.
Simply better.
On this project, I created an e-commerce solution based on the Magento platform but with every aspect heavily customized for the client. A few of the special features written for Da Vinci: custom shipping modules, custom payment modules, javascript product image viewer, and even product drill-down using drop-down menus.
For a stunning online presence, I used WordPress as a content management system and created a custom template for the Manning Sossamon law firm. The result is a website the clients can manage and update themselves without specialized knowledge. It's a company site that can grow along with the firm.
An online travel magazine encompassing a dozen blogs managed through a tailored installation of Movable Type, TravelBeat.net offers enlightening articles, a fresh layout, and lots of embedded media. An off-the-shelf blogging platform was only the beginning for this website -- I built extensive custom templates using Movable Type's specialized programming language.
Talented artists with ever-growing portfolios need websites based on inexpensive software they can update themselves to showcase their art, blog their thoughts, and alert visitors to upcoming shows. Here are 3 sites I built on open source software that can change in sync with their creative owners.

As the primary programmer behind the LibQUAL® project, I took it from a pilot to a worldwide effort to measure library service quality, one used by over half a million people. Technologies utilized include object-oriented ColdFusion, advanced database structures and programming in MS SQL Server, SPSS, Crystal Reports, CSS, XML, ASP.NET, AJAX, and web services.
Working with artists and collectors, Sightline needed a website that showed what they do while displaying the utmost taste. Subtle use of javascript and an all-CSS layout make the galleries pop and the portfolio fun to explore.

Jonathan D. Sousa has 12 years experience in the IT industry, designing and developing PHP, ColdFusion, and ASP.NET database-backed applications for the academic, private sector, and non-profit worlds. Before starting Sousa Consulting, he built LibQUAL+®
, a survey of library service quality that has been completed by over half a million people worldwide and has attracted over 700 institutional clients.
Jonathan's diverse background provides a rare and effective collection of technical, analytical, creative, and communication skills. Equally skilled in writing
and speaking as in online application architecture, he is that unusual technology expert who can effectively translate esoteric computing concepts for his non-technical clients.
Particularly expert in synthesizing and displaying complex information in visual form, Jonathan's charts and diagrams have been used worldwide, and even cited by the Principal Engineer at Google. His skill in taking assessment tools beyond simply collecting information to the stage where that information is easily accessible and useful have made a significant impact in the field of library science.
Jonathan approaches programming with an eye for usability: from maintainable code compliant with international standards, to layouts, language, and site structures that simply make sense. His expert coding focused on efficient reuse always supports a clear and friendly user experience. A properly designed online application should be a pleasure to use for both the end user and the people maintaining the code.
When he isn't providing consulting services, Jonathan spends his time enjoying the rich cultural and social offerings of Washington, DC. He has run several sub-3-hour marathons and counts a first-wave start at the Boston Marathon among his proudest accomplishments. He loves having the opportunity to run by the Potomac, an activity now supplemented by practicing yoga.
